1954-present:
Faust flies hanging beneath his two flexible-lobed shorts wing over 3' 7". Later in 1960...over 7 feet barrier; self-soar occurs; the wing had extremely high sail loading; the glide ratio was very near zero for the pant/shirt/body wing. He was not the first to hang glide with this type of wing and method of one-foot launching, but he broke an age world record as he earned a spot as baby of the USA Olympic Track & Field team for the Rome Olympics; in 1962 for 10 seconds he flew over a square cross-sectioned bar set at 7' 4 3/4" at the moment when the world record by Brumel was 7' 4 1/2"; he later founded Self-Soar Association and United States Hang Glider Association. He had a period of kite pursuits before those events; Will Yolen in a letter called Faust "King of Kites." Later Faust sold his kite-note archives to AKA for $1 to editor Valerie Govig. His high jumping hang gliding flights gave foundation to his dedication to hang glider history. He gave his hang glider archives to Hang Glider Museum.
