• OPTEC's Principal Investigator Moritz Diehl was awarded an ERC Starting Grant for his project HIGHWIND - Simulation, Optimization and Control of High-Altitude Wind Power Generators. The European Research Council (ERC) selects individual scientists with high risk, high gain projects, in a highly selective procedure, and awards more than 1 MEuro to each selected project. The ERC funding is synergetic with OPTEC's kite power project and will strongly reinforce its activities in the coming 5 years.      (fact: October 2010)
• The Optimization in Engineering Center (OPTEC) was created in 2005 as one of the twelve Centers of Excellence at the Katholieke Universiteit Leuven.
