DaveS notes:   This from Loyd's classic 1982 paper Crosswind Power-

"For auxiliary power, wind-driven electric generators have been used on kites.
However, for large-scale power production, the weight of generators (& conductors)
on the kite degrades performance, and other means of power transmission to the ground is needed."
