Towing-kiting the HG kite (that is, the HGs that have the pilot on short tether are already  kite systems; to launch the HG kite for gliding purposes by using a longer tether attached to a prime mover has many variations; the prime mover might be a set of friends, a set of animals, a horse, a truck, a car, a powered ultralight, another kite, a parachute system, a pulling drifting hydro drogue, a motorized boat, a set of bungee cords, an onboard electric winch, a ground winch, a modified scooter as winch, a scooter unmodified, a motorcycle, a ship, a dropping mass, etc.)  Send in your prime-mover towing-kiting-of-HGs ideas!

Get tow lessons from those who have benefited from the accident history of towing HGs.

  • Friends tow with bungee line
  • Friends tow with compound line (part hard line and part tether)
  • Self-set cluster of bungee cords with perhaps sector of hard line for safety.
  • Onboard electric winch (1970's Jack Lambie note). Self-soar tow; leave no trace on ground.
  • River-set drogue arrange through pulley system
  • Hitch-hike cruising ship
  • Richard Miller described free-flight tow method. See his 1967 book Without Visible Means of Support. And see the following tech as instructed by Dale C. Kramer in a patent application
  • Have HG airframe made so that the very structural parts are ultracapacitors; use charge set to drive an onboard winch; leave no trace on ground. Flike around the world. Recharge airframe via sun, wind, pilot-muscle.
  • Payout from platform launch on moving car or moving truck.
  • Static-line winch using long tether take-up. Consider mid-line balloons to keep line off ground. Or mid-line lifter kites to keep line off the ground, especially when ground is challenging in some manner.

  • Want to soften the impact? Climb the lines quickly! Or shorten the lines quickly.   The extreme of this is the getting up into the air by climbing the hang line of a skyhook of some description.

  • Otto Lilienthal leads the way:
"With each advent of spring, when the air is alive with innumerable happy creatures; when the storks on their arrival at their old northern resorts fold up the imposing flying apparatus which has carried them thousands of miles, lay back their heads and announce their arrival by joyously rattling their beaks; when the swallows have made their entry and hurry through our streets and pass our windows in sailing flight; when the lark appears as a dot in the ether and manifests its joy of existence by its song; then a certain desire takes possession of man. He longs to soar upward and to glide, free as the bird, over smiling fields, leafy woods and mirror-like lakes, and so enjoy the varying landscape as fully as only a bird can do."
