Videos for VAWT rotor kites (Magnus-effect,
Darrieus, rotating ribbon, etc.). Notice that the axis on many of these
vertical-axis wind turbine kites is set traverse to wind and often
matching the horizon. The "V" in VAWT stands for a "vertical" that derives
from wind turbines that can be set as a tower-like device with axis
pointing up, but such is not a necessary condition; but the axis set
normal to the wind direction is the defining parameter. [
See differently rotating kites that have rotation
axis parallel nearly to the wind direction and called HAWT (gyrocopting,
barrel, pinwheel, etc.) ]
