- Reel.
US 850236 Filed. August 28, 1906. Albert M. Maguire
of Indianapolis, Indiana. Discuss.
- Seems only "boys" flew kites!
- Main aim seems to be the ease of providing oneself with a reel.
- Inventor provides a flat space on which commercial interest may be
pasted.
- Description uses the word "knot" for the cutout space in the drum in
order to clear the hand's fingers and knuckles. "which are provided
with knots to form
passage-ways for the fingers of the hand employed in holding the reel
with in operation." He also calls out "side notches" for the
same, it seems. Was the use of the word "knots" a typo or something
else?
- The kite system implied has the resistive wing set consisting of
reel, fingers, pilot. The tether set implied is a single thread. The
wing set implied is some airfoil.
- The reel blades are asymmetrical; but flipping allow "left-handed
persons" to use the reel as well.
