Dec. 2010:
in attach a photo of our industrial scale prototype of stem.
we are working hard to reach the result with great satisfaction.
But the environment isn't helpful, as some negative opinions that are continuously spread on internet.
The concept is still unclear to the majority of the "expert" in energy.
The Stem itself is a product with a wide applicability, but also a good step in the direction KiteGen carousel concept.
Our Carousel concept is the still misunderstood answer to most of the concerns that I can often read;
let me know from your point of view what is missing in our communication and why it is so difficult to understand. Massimo

Special note: Distinction: The "stem" is a launching and retrieving mechanism and not a generation stick.  For generation stick or "tipping boom that drives generator from radial leverage, see elsewhere.

A 2010 report notices three commercial machines being built.
High concern for new-tech operation safety for kitefield workers is in focus.

2014 notes:
  • Massimo Ippolito has posted a challenging statement in AWES forum about the Reel Method history. See discussion.
  • Massimo's note of "40" patents leads us to forming a list of the patents.
  •
2013 notes:

  • Smart control system exploiting the characteristics of generic kites or airfoils to convert energy",
    European patent 02840646 , inventor: M. Ippolito, December 2004

PopSci.com, September 2009:  KiteGen Research update notes regards project to be completed in 2011.

KG-yoyo configuration, traction phase, recovery phase, KSU, Kite Steering Unit, kite modeling and control, on board sensors, ground sensors, actuation unit, KG-farm, upwind kite, downwind kite, power density, carousel configuration, KSU1, Politecnico di Torino, Regione Piemonte, test performed in Sardegna (IT) in September2006, test performed near Casale (IT) in January2008, MobileGen KSU1,

Future plans
•To build in 18 months a new yo-yo prototype with a power of 1 MW.

•This prototype will demonstrate the feasibility of building in further18 months a windfarm with a power of 10 MW with energy production costs lower than from oil.

•To build in 36 months a prototype with carousel configuration, demonstrating all the functionalities of a 50 MW plant on a circular structure of 500 m radius.

Further point for history:  "If you allow me a little note on this point, I remember that I had proposed the name "kitegen" to Massimo Ippolito a few years ago. Before, he had called his idea "Kiwigen" ("KIte WInd GENerator) - which sounded like something made in New Zealand or sold in the vegetable market. Ippolito agreed with me and from then on we started using that name. At that time, Mr Fagiano and his coworkers at the Politecnico di Torino probably didn't even know that such a thing as AWE existed.

Unfortunately, neither myself nor Ippolito placed a copyright on the name, so I see now that people are fighting for the rights of the name. Which is all right, after all, what is in a name? That which we call kitegen, by any other name, would fly so nice. Also, a kitegen is a kitegen is a kitegen.....     ~~UB     Dec. 22, 2010,  M2754       See presentation composed on Oct. 21, 2004: The KiWiGen Project Kite Wind Generator

"DISTINCTION:   "The name “KiteGen” has been coined at Politecnico di Torino, well before the foundation of KiteGen Research s.r.l., and it has been the name of the first research project, funded by Regione Piemonte and coordinated by Politecnico di Torino, aimed to investigate high-altitude wind energy using power kites."  Lorenzo Fagiano in his Ph.D. thesis, which see.
