- In the in-part Sputnik-driven personal-flight
renaissance, we find, so far, that BHP was perhaps the first to home
build and fly from foot-launching a Rogallo-aura-inspired
pilot-carriable flex wing hang glider; he did so in nil wind and landed
on his own feet. Though he was not the absolute first in history
to foot-launch a flexible-sailed two-lobe hang glider (see, at least,
the 1904 Lavezzari in France at Berck-sur-Mer Beach), his effort and
sharing with friends and correspondents--gestation period for modern
sport hang gliding--resulted in a significant synergistic blossoming
that contributed strongly to the eventual birthing of worldwide sport
hang gliding via the meet of

Newport Beach, California.
