Tesla/SpaceX AWES item
July 6, 2020, post by Dave Santosbegan as French April Fool's Joke Tesla and SpaceX reveal secret AWES R&D ------ This story sadly did not check out. Time will tell how many even less plausible claims in AWE prove out-
Its
clear here that Makani and its M600 is just being used as an example of
AWE R&D, but not the SpaceX/Tesla AWES, which is described as a
"kite", which tends to mean a soft kite in the lay press. A groundgen
AWES also seems suggested. Its likely someone in Musk's circle has read
discussions and agreed with Makani critiques, and is quite unlikely to closely replicate Makani.
For
context, Tesla has become the number 1 car company in the world in cash
valuation, but not in actual car production. This trove of cash is
being sloshed around to fund SpaceX and now AWE R&D. Anything may
happen now, like the acquisition of SkySails or other players, or
some new architecture, or broadened AWE R&D at an accelerated pace.
Secrecy and monopolistic intent are again factors...
Skepticism on Reddit Tesla forum over a Musk AWE move.
The
Musk AWES item, fake or not, is odd. What motive is there for a fake
claim of this kind? Anderson's other posts seem rather mundane tech
bits. On the other hand, Anderson is mysterious, with no ready contact
channel. It would not be too unusual for Musk to announce a idea this
way, but perhaps a Musk impersonator account is behind this, giving
motive to play it out. That cash-rich Tesla would dabble in AWE R&D
is fairly credible, and the Buffalo gigafactory is real. Stay Tuned.
Mystery grows.
Reddit
Tesla group seems consistently removing news that Anderson reports,
including like his posting of this same news that MSN and others
reported-
Digging
into Vocal, the social media platform owned by Jerrick Media Holdings
of Fort Lee, NJ. Not a fake-news channel as such, nor is it very well
established. No human answered its phone number.
An
suspicious aspect of Anderson's post, besides long-shot probability
Musk himself stooped to announce to Anderson, and no cited Twitter
trail provided, is the confused quoting-
In
response to a tweet I sent him on March 31, Mr. Musk confirmed the
information to me, stating that his teams are working on a turbine
concept "held in the air several hundred meters high, capable of 'deal
with high winds and storms and produce energy transported to the ground
', probably by cable. Confronted in particular with the problem of
aviation safety, he explains that the engineers of SpaceX, the space
subsidiary of which he is also the CEO, brought their know-how and
their support to the project. " The team did a great job, " he said,
adding with his legendary humility" No credit to me"!
"Legendary humility" seems a bit off as well.
Perhaps
this a click-bait writer account by some desperate person who invented
John Anderson, and is trying to drum up traffic, without seeming too
implausible, a mix of real and invented news. Could even be the clever
shadowy IDTechX report operators looking to expand their channels. AWE
is just one of their tropes, Covid is another, and so on.
