Oct. 2, 2020, post by Dave Santos JARUS UAS ConOps Updates To: JARUS UAS ConOps Point-of-Contact Airborne Wind Energy (AWE) is a complex emerging UAS Class with roots in 14 CFR Part 101. We have a ConOps going since 2012, now in the process of updating and revision. Its been a pleasure to review JARUS's UAS ConOps to reconcile the two documents. No doubt AWE falls within the scope of JARUS, and there will be ongoing work to develop and maintain Rules. There are many detailed issues to work out as AWE and general UAS R&D continues. Looking forward to a productive JARUS process with regard to AWE. Please respond with any requests, suggestions, and questions. Thanks for establishing a JARUS Point0of-Contact. Sept. 30, 2020, p;ost by Dave Santos Re: TACO and UAS ConOp Once again, many AWE venture insiders face a losing uphill battle for Regulatory Exemptions-
KiteLabs Group's topologically integrated AWES combine many unit-kites into a single UAS under one PIC. Ventures based on single-line single-kite topology require a PIC for each scale-limited AWES, or Exemption. Statistical automation reliability of unstable AWES UAS designs cannot soon reach regulatory acceptability. This AWES reality has long been known to those developers knowledgeable in aviation and kite factors. |
Sept. 30, 2020, post by Dave Santos TACO and UAS ConOps General UAS sector has developed its ConOps a bit slower (2012 v. 2015) than kPower's TACO, but its quite good too. I've reached out to to JE, the lead author, to reconcile our two ConOps over time. We'll also be expertly representing AWE to JARUS:

Sept. 27, 2020, post by Dave Santos The
AWEIA Investigation remains open into just what happened when
KitePower's Tether dragged thru Valkenburg, and snubbed up and pierced
a commercial roof with lethal force.
The Cover-up is worse than the Crime," as the American saying goes. More
is now known about each of Makani's four M600 crashes than Kitepower
has disclosed about its major crash, while falsely claiming to lead in
safety.
The Kitepower Safety Zone diagram is nutty.
JoeF and I (kPower) lead in AWE Safety, not AWEurope: TACO Tethered Aviation ConOps ======================= Hi Kristian,
Including
you here in the hope you will see why AWEurope is not fairly
representative of AWE. Written complaints go back a decade to the
secret founding of AWEC, the hijacking of conferences, and the
brand-change from AWEC to AWEurope by the same core insiders.
Suppressed
debates over safety and performance have hidden AWEurope flaws. This
thread is a typical example of ongoing critique for you to consider.
Roland, Udo, and many of the other AWEurope figures can fill you in on
past complaints. Makani's failure is relevant. Open-AWE predicted it
since 2007, by the AWEC/AWEurope insiders went along with the hype.
Hoping
AWEurope can pivot away from all the big mistakes, like the Safety Zone
bungle laid out here. EU and the World deserves better.
Getting
AWEurope to willingly support renewed US conferences is a top concern
(AWEC2021SeaTac). We will wait until they do, like we have waited seven
years already. We have US DOE IEA reps now aware of the split AWEurope
has created.
Cheers,
dave

September 26, 2020, post by Dave Santos Open tech debate is key US core-value. Its been a neglected process by AWEurope. Material is in preparation for online AWE Technical Debate next week before US DOE IEA reps. AWEurope Safety and Technical Working Group is invited to correct and/or rebut items. Aug. 31, 2020, post by Dave Santos A case of Spontaneous Automatic Human Flight, with a happy outcome. A new youth World Record! JoefF noted regarding an August
2020 incident at Taiwan Kite Festival where a 3-year old girl somehow
was snagged by a kite tail and taken for a perilous flight; the various
videos went viral on the Internet. One news page.
https://youtu.be/7z3EYfXgv3g shows tail tenders and tail-area safety officer. See one of several videos HERE Last tail tender is a good distance forward of the whipping tail end. Wind is whipping end of tail about. Relates to this kite dynamics: (click image for large size) And relates to Steve Edeiken of Venice, CA, tragically... And: Another little kid flying:
