Aug. 5, 2020, post by Dave Santos Race Kites get more radical Nothing can keep up with new "GoldCup" race wings. They continue to absorb advanced ideas we saw born in the minds of a tiny design elite. For example, bridles are now just A, B, and "Z". Gone are C lines, just as the boldest have cut them away for years now. These wings are so extreme and demanding, lines are shorter to still be able to handle them. New lighter fabrics make them act weightless, which is good, because its better not to land. AoA control across so long a wing is now a limiting factor. They require meticulous care, like concertina packing, with valve intake "plastic-wire" whiskers carefully kept undistorted. Its not that these kites are so hard to fly, you just have really know how, and not make mistakes. Such is the challenging practice of the highest kite performance ever. |
