Paragliding and AWE
- In raw form recreational paragliding is a form of AWES.
- High-aspect-ration canopy wings are subject to collapse from various causes, even naturally occurring turbulence.
- Human pilots as free-glight anchors for their canopy
wings may opt to don electric air turbines for generating electricity
for charging batteries, heating, lighting, etc.
- Nearly 2000 humans have died in non-powered recreational paragliding incidents as of year 2020. [x] We are checking with the bookkeeper on this estimate. Answer from the best known researcher on the matter:
August 23, 2020
Hi Joe,
At this time, I have verified 1920 free-flight paragliding fatalities worldwide by Jan 1, 2020.
In my opinion, that represents 90% or less of the actual number.
Okay to share.
