FOR
IMMEDIATE RELEASE:
8/29/2020
kPower:
Today kPower (pre)ordered 100k AWES units from KiteKraft of Germany. kPower's
co-founder Dave Santos stated- "It's a no-brainer; KiteKraft's
pre-offer of
a
"50% (wind energy) cost reduction" is a revolutionary Energy Market
opportunity.
This
is the Historic First major
commercial order in emerging Airborne Wind Energy.
====================================== Discussion on this news release: JoeF asked: Do you have specifications for one unit of the KiteKraft AWES? Will all 100 000 units be of the same specification? Did KiteKraft accept the pre-order? Was there a down payment required? Are there any calendar notes in the pre-order? You inserted an interpreted "(wind energy)" in one of the clauses. Did KiteKraft approve of that parenthetical phrase? DaveS clarifies: That "Wind Energy" price was the intended metric is the most-reasonable assumption. --------------------------------- DaveS notes: There was no KiteKraft disclaimers nor detailed terms. I set a couple of standard terms, like Net-30 on delivery. If they do manage to deliver the order as proposed, it will be feasible for kPower to borrow the capital within Net-30. Effectively, KiteKraft is offering Wind Energy at 50% of market value. That's a true bargain. Estimated value of the contract- >100M It would be unwise of KiteKraft to prematurely cancel an open 100k unit order, if they are serious long-term players. Sincerely, Kite-Boon Pickens
===================Some posts by kPower's Dave Santos: Sat, Aug 29, 4:54 PM Well it would have been great to massively preorder M600s (Buy American, ra-ra), but the German mini600 offering came first. If KiteKraft delivers, we expect LarryE will be ready to underwrite, for nice cut. We can jack up the price-point 20% and still offer 40% below market. OtherLab would get the LarryE finder-fee. Swing for the fences! kPower =========================== The path for this bon-mot to become a serious deal by 2030 is for KiteKraft to relentlessly migrate its AWES design paradigm toward TRL9, rather than fatally down-select to a dead-end architecture. KiteKraft's current "energy-drone" AWES architecture will reveal definite AWES scaling-law and survival-to-payback limits, well understood and documented since 2009. There are countless critical failure modes to eliminate by adopting a many-connected-topology "rag and string only" strategy. The "energy drone" experience serves for statistical limit-case reference. Direct comparative evaluation (internal fly-off) of the two opposed paradigms will settle all doubts. Technische Universität Kaiserslautern is the emergent EU academic partner to balance current TUDelft/TUMunich AWES paradigms. More research due-diligence is required. ===================== Good timing: kPower's order was placed before Fast Company buzz. Maybe we should have ordered 1M units.
