AP3 rotates ground-based generators by reeling out the tether to generate electricity.
Note: The generic method of cyclic generation/consumption
with tether-out and tether-in operations by a kite system
is in public domain. "pumping: "yo-yo" "production phase, cost phase," etc. ~Ed.
May 2020: new CEO named: Fabrizio Nastri replaced founder Richard Ruiterkamp (10 yrs) "now that Ampyx Power transitions from technology development to product development and commercialization."
System and procedure of wind power production in flight. [Caution: The title translated might mislead; the system is a ground-gen AWES, not a fly-gen AWES.]

Ampyx Power chooses apparently to define for themselves:
"Commercial
AWES are fully automated systems, compliant with stringent aviation
regulation, designed for a service life of 20+ years, generating
reliable and affordable energy for thousands of households"

November 11, 2020, post by Dave Santos Ampyx on Track to Meet Grim Expectations
A
new Ampyx "tell" in the latest video is barely controlled high-speed
reeling, with line jangling wildly and spooling sloppily. Another tell
is the incredible noise of full-throttle E-STOL propulsion, especially
by a resonant airframe. There are the accustomed claims of
technological superiority and unbeatable scaling potential.
No
way large high-performance composite kiteplanes can be catapulted-from
and return-to a perch. Ampyx founding insiders know the AP3 is
heroically doomed like Makani, by the same grim aerospace
system-engineering road-blocks, and they have been bailing out.
Even AWEurope suits privately know its over soon for all their "High
Complexity" players. The hired new faces never got the memo, but the rumors are surely flying. Covid
has bought some time; maybe another investment round can be squeezed
in, so the top VCs exit extra flush. Pray no one is killed.
